A cutting edge research enterprise, the Mayo Clinic Leighton Cardiovascular Research Laboratories capitalizes on rapid advances in the cardiology fields. Outstanding scientists from Rochester, MN; Jacksonville, FL; and Scottsdale, AZ are integrating their work in molecular, cellular, organ, and whole body research and are making great strides in the prevention and cure of cardiovascular disease.
Judd and Mary Lou Leighton first visited the Mayo Clinic in Rochester in the mid-70's and, through the years, developed lasting friendships with many physicians. As an expression of gratitude for the care they received, the Leightons gave generously in support of Mayo Clinic programs and activities. They provided funding and support not only for the Research Laboratories, but also for Leighton Auditorium and the Cardiovascular Seminar Room, and they established the Judd and Mary Morris Leighton Professorship in Cardiovascular Diseases and Hypertension.
