Like many communities in the U.S., St. Joseph County struggles with a shortage of healthcare workers. Bethel University’s nursing program directly addresses the nursing shortage our local healthcare organizations experience, as nearly 70% of their graduates continue to live and work in the region after graduation.
Bethel supports its nursing and pre-med programs with three laboratory facilities: the Nursing Simulation Lab, the Chemistry/Biology Lab, and the Cadaver Lab. Technology advances quickly in these settings. For educational institutions, staying up to date with the latest technologies is essential to continue attracting top students and turning out well-prepared graduates. All three of these labs are currently in need of equipment and facility upgrades.
Bethel submitted a grant request detailing the planned facility renovations and equipment needs, and asked the Foundation to join with other donors to push the project to completion. The Foundation, a longtime supporter of educational and healthcare initiatives in the community, granted their request.
