Mishawaka Troop Town (MTT) was founded as a non-profit organization in 2019 in response to the rising number of veterans experiencing homelessness in our community.  Their goal- to improve the quality of life for local veterans though the construction of some rather unique transitional housing…a village of “tiny houses.”

It’s been found that veterans with secure housing are more likely to maintain stable employment, experience healthy lifestyles with fewer mental health issues, and have a more positive sense of self. Troop Town will provide that safe environment through the construction of four fully furnished, 800 square-foot duplex buildings containing 8 residential units, plus a fifth building which will include community space and a housing unit for the project’s onsite peer support veteran. Each private residential unit will include a single bedroom, kitchen, and bathroom facilities.

MTT submitted a grant proposal to the Foundation to aid in the construction of these five buildings. The Foundation, a prior supporter of MTT, previously awarded a Phase 1 grant to assist with the initial acquisition of the property and design consultant fees. Pleased with the progress of the project, our board approved a grant request to be used for construction of the Tiny House Veteran’s homes.
