Our Vision
At the Judd Leighton Foundation, we’re dedicated to perpetuating the vision of our founder- to improve the quality of life in our community through judicious investment in the areas of healthcare, education, and economic development.
As an independent, private, grantmaking foundation, we provide grant assistance to tax-exempt organizations seeking to address a community problem or need. Preference is given to proposals for capital projects and program support that promise to generate the greatest impact on the community at large, while demonstrating sustainability over the long term.
Grantmaking Policies of the Foundation:
The Foundation is restricted to making not less than 75% of its required annual distribution within St. Joseph County, IN.
Grants will not be made directly to individuals.
Preference will be given to proposals that benefit the greatest number of residents in the community.
Capital projects and program grants are preferred over operating or endowment fund support.
Grants to religious organizations will be made only for non-sectarian purposes/programs.
The foundation will seek, where appropriate, to generate the greatest impact in its grantmaking through the establishment of matching challenge grants in partnership with other individuals and organizations.
