Big Cat Tracks represents the exciting final phase of the Potawatomi Zoo Master Plan. Set to break ground in Spring 2025, this significant project will provide an expansive, enriched habitat for Amur tigers and leopards, offer dynamic educational opportunities for visitors, and continue the Zoo’s important work in conservation.

This exhibit, the zoo’s first expansion, will be constructed on two adjacent acres recently acquired from the City of South Bend, incorporating existing mature trees on the site into the habitat to emulate the species’ native Amur region of China.  Plans also include the introduction of smaller species from the region, like Sika deer, tufted deer, and white naped cranes to create an immersive Eurasian experience.

The Potawatomi zoo is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), and goes through a rigorous inspection every five years.  The Big Cat Tracks campaign is designed to address the tiger habitat upgrades needed for successful reaccreditation. As a longtime supporter of the zoo and its mission, we approved a grant request for their capital campaign and look forward to the groundbreaking.
