Broadway Christian Parish

Hospitality Project

Broadway Christian Parish has long provided emotional, physical, and logistical assistance to South Bend’s homeless population and our lower-income neighbors on South Bend’s near Southeast side.  Much of this assistance stems from their Hospitality Room program, which offers a variety of services and help Monday through Thursday mornings at the parish in a sheltered, safe, relaxing environment.  Here, those in need can gather for breakfast, shower, do small loads of laundry, get help with bus passes, mail service and clothing, and even have their health checked on certain days by student nurses from St. Mary’s.

Broadway applied for a grant from the Foundation to help them complete Phase 2 of a plan designed to improve Hospitality Room facilities. Delayed by the pandemic, the completion of Phase 2 will see the addition of men’s and women’s handicapped-accessible bathrooms, including additional showers and grooming stations.

The Foundation, familiar with Broadway’s good works and this project in particular through their Phase 1 support, joined with other like-minded donors and funded the grant request that completed their funding needs and allowed them to complete the project.
