Place to Be Me Program Space Improvements
Place to Be Me, Children’s Dispensary Programs provides social and recreational programs to children and adults with special needs. In 2022, after years of providing their services at various locations throughout Michiana, they purchased and moved into their own building in downtown South Bend. This move into their own space was expected to be a big step in expanding the social, educational, and recreational programs they’ve been providing to the special needs community since the 1970’s.
They submitted a grant request to the Foundation that would allow them to renovate a large garage space at the new facility into program space where clients can enjoy a variety of activities including, arts and crafts, cardio drumming and other fitness activities, as well as dinners and game nights. The Foundation approved their grant request, and the space was updated with epoxy floors, carpet, new drywall and paint, and storage and sound panels to reduce noise, creating a bright and inviting space.
