Mishawaka Expansion Project
In 2011, HealthLinc acquired the primary care practice at St. Joseph Hospital, which had been primarily providing charity care to uninsured and underinsured patients. Despite investments in the facility, including renovation of one side of the existing building, by 2024 wait times for provider visits reached 21 days, while wait times for new patients had extended to 61 days. The need for expansion of the facility had become urgent.
In September of 2024, the HealthLinc Board of Directors approved the renovation of a decommissioned wing of a building they owned at 420 West 4th Street in Mishawaka. This renovation would add women’s health exam rooms, optometry stations, chiropractic and behavioral health rooms, conference and classroom space, and the necessary health practitioners to staff them.
HealthLinc submitted a grant request to the Foundation to aid in the funding of this project. As a longtime supporter of health initiatives that improve the quality of life in our community, the Foundation approved a grant request.
