Indiana Reach Out and Read
The Indiana Reach Out and Read program is designed to integrate early literacy into pediatric care, providing books to children during well-child visits and encouraging parents to read aloud to their children from a young age. This early intervention has been shown to better prepare children with the foundational literacy skills necessary for academic success when they enter school. Clinics offering the program serve a diverse population, many from underserved low-income families.
The Indiana American Academy of Pediatrics applied to the Foundation for a grant to support the program in seven of their area pediatric clinics. The Foundation, a longtime supporter of educational initiatives in the local community, supported their grant request.
