Marian University Ancilla College: Nursing Simulation Lab

Nursing Simulation Lab
The nursing shortage in Indiana, following the national trend, is in full-blown crisis with no immediate relief in sight. The demand for skilled nursing care is projected to continue growing into the 2030s, as the last of the aging baby boomer generation moves past age 65. Compounding the problem, without an influx of new nursing school graduates, the pool of available nurses is expected to shrink as nurses from that generation reach retirement age.
To help meet this demand, Marian University Ancilla College (MUAC) launched a Bachelor of Science in Nursing program in 2021, the first four-year degree offered on the Ancilla campus. They understood that in order to build a state-of-the art curriculum that could compete for and prepare top students and faculty, it would need to include hands-on training with the most up-to-date technologies and equipment. In today’s nursing environment, this meant the need to plan and build a fully equipped nursing simulation lab.

MUAC submitted a grant request, asking us to join with other supporters to fund the construction of the lab and purchase of equipment. The Foundation, a longtime supporter of promising educational and healthcare initiatives, cited the overwhelming and immediate need to address the acute nursing shortage, and elected to approve a grant.
