School Backpack Program
The Judd Leighton Foundation, Inc. has awarded a grant to the Salvation Army Kroc Center to support their School Backpack Program. The grant was approved by the Foundation’s board at its December meeting.
In a partnership between the Kroc Center, the Mishawaka Food Pantry, and the schools, the School Backpack Program provides 6 weekend meals every week for up to 100 John Young Middle School, 100 Beiger and Liberty Elementary School, and 75 Clay Middle School children and families in need who would not otherwise have complete meals over the weekends during the school year. The Foundation’s grant is earmarked to provide funding for the second half of the 2018/2019 school year for this fast growing program that is so vital to the health and well-being of nearly 300 families in our local community.
